Product Description
AISI 4130 material is chromium-molybdenum low alloy steel, implemented in ASTM A29 standard, with good high strength, toughness and hardenability, used in quenched and tempered state. After quenching and tempering , it has good toughness and can withstand impact loads without breaking , which is consistent with European standard EN 25CrMo4 |1.7218, SAM420 equivalent steel grade.
AISI 4130 characteristics: good hot strength, good high temperature strength at 500℃, the weldability is quite good at the lower limit of alloy elements, but the weldability is medium when approaching the upper limit, and it needs to be preheated to above 175℃ before welding; the steel has good machinability and medium plasticity during cold deformation .

Heat treatment specifications :
The quenching temperature is 880℃, water cooling; the tempering temperature is 540℃. The delivery state is heat treated (normalizing, annealing or high temperature tempering) or not heat treated .
application :
processing and producing accessories for pressure vessels, pumps and valves, gears, shafts, bolts, spindles, steering wheels, stud bolts, gear auto parts, roll cage chassis , oil and gas industry , and aerospace industry.
Production process:
Smelting: Iron ore, scrap steel and other raw materials are converted into molten steel through electric furnace or converter smelting. The chemical composition of 4130 steel includes carbon (C) 0.28-0.33%, silicon (Si) 0.15-0.35%, manganese (Mn) 0.40-0.60%, chromium (Cr) 0.80-1.10%, molybdenum (Mo) 0.15-0.25%, and the residual contents of sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P) are less than 0.040 and 0.035% respectively 12.
Pouring: After degassing and composition adjustment, the molten steel after smelting is poured into ingots or continuously cast into billets.
Hot rolling: The steel billet is rolled through a hot rolling mill to form steel plates, steel bars or other required product shapes of different sizes.
Normalizing: To improve the microstructure and eliminate internal stresses, the steel may need to be normalized, which is usually carried out at a temperature in the range of 870 – 925°C15.
Machining: Depending on the requirements of the final product, the steel may need to be machined, such as cutting, drilling, etc.
Heat treatment: 4130 steel is usually used in the quenched and tempered state, which involves heating the steel to a certain temperature and then cooling it rapidly (quenching), and then tempering it to obtain the required hardness and toughness. The quenching temperature is usually 880℃ and the tempering temperature is 540℃ 13.
Quality Inspection: Strict quality inspection to ensure that it meets ASTM A29/A29M-04 standards12.
Surface treatment: Depending on the application requirements, the steel surface may need to be treated, such as coating, plating, etc., to improve corrosion resistance or other properties.
